The Barb Shop
Located on Cortland Avenue in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, The Barb Shop brings together two unexpected concepts: a neighborhood hair salon and a retro-inspired ice cream counter reminiscent of a classic American soda fountain. The playful concept pairs haircuts with soft serve ice cream, milkshakes, floats, and other nostalgic treats.
Working alongside 444 Architects, we transformed the space with an updated layout, upgraded plumbing and electrical systems, and new finishes throughout. Our in-house millwork shop fabricated extensive custom woodwork, including wall paneling, trim, barber stations, and mirror surrounds. A curved soft serve counter, colorful tilework, and bold red-and-white checkered flooring bring the retro-inspired design to life, while a dedicated takeout window serves customers directly from the street.
Blending the functionality of a working hair salon with the charm of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, The Barb Shop offers a playful new gathering place in the heart of Bernal Heights!
