Monica Wong and Dennis Cantwell at Palm City Wines might just be two of the scrappiest restaurateurs we've encountered. With a clear dream to turn a historic convenience store in the Outer Sunset into a neighborhood restaurant with delicious wine (Dennis is a former wine director at Nopa) and a comforting "home-y" menu, the two encountered a slurry of challenges with permitting through the city that delayed work. Once we were able to continue, work included an extensive remodel of the historic space. A new bar, shelving, finishes, refrigeration, and storefront. There was also extensive glass work. They had a preliminary design by Mason St. Peter, but the owners worked with us in a design build capacity to get the details right. Every existing blemish, irregularity, and transition was addressed thoughtfully and with consideration to the budget. We finished up with final inspections only to put their opening date just in time for the pandemic to shut down business in the Bay Area. So, they pivoted, as one does, and created a menu of hoagies (Dennis and their chef, Melissa McGrath are originally from Philly) to offer for take-out with bottles of wine and some cool swag. They currently have a line around the block for #westcoasthoags that have received mention and acclaim in a variety of sources. 1,468 square feet
