June’s Pizza had already achieved cult status slinging pies from a shipping container during the pandemic. But after being shut down by local authorities, they needed a new path forward. That’s when we reached out. Before a location was even secured, the relationship was sparked - and when the right raw space came along, we got to work alongside Alex Spatzier Architects transforming a wide-open warehouse into one of Oakland’s most buzzed-about restaurants.
From the moment you walk in, the centerpiece is unmistakable: a beautifully built-out mezzanine that houses structural and mechanical systems while elevating the visual energy of the space. Below it, a streamlined back-of-house supports high-volume service, while the dining area keeps things casual, inviting, and true to June’s Pizza’s roots.
The original plan called for a hybrid effort, with the owner providing and sourcing much of the material. As the project progressed, our scope expanded to include painting, tile coordination, finish carpentry, and fine-tuning key details to bring everything together. We installed kitchen equipment, tile, and executed underground plumbing, electrical upgrades, HVAC, and a new kitchen exhaust system - all while keeping the layout flexible for dine-in, takeout, and late-night service.
We’re proud to have been part of this homecoming moment for June’s Pizza, a breakout pandemic success story now grounded in a permanent home built for longevity and late-night slices.
